I don't think Herbert is comparable to Ben Roethlisberger, who has the body of a truck driver. Herbert also clearly has a stronger arm than Roethlisberger's has ever been. I hate to say it, because I can't stand the Broncos or John Elway, but Herbert's ability is closer to Elway's than it is Roethlisberger's.

I always knew Herbert was gonna turn out above tua and burrow in the nfl, and watched him play for the ducks, he didn’t have good Quarterback coach, but he did have the skill set already. His athleticism is off the charts. Tua was great but as a Chargers fan, I seen more greatness in this kid, than tua and burrow, I was praying we get him instead of tua, which my prayer’s were answered. I kept telling all the Herbert haters from the beginning, Herbert is gonna shock the nfl off the charts and just what I thought quite the haters.

Lots of NFL GM’s prioritize traits over performance. Performance is based on your personal skill and also the assets around you. Physical traits are unique to yourself and transferable to any team. This is the major debate between the analytics community and old-school draft tape grinders The analytics community believes that Subjective analysis based on physical traits is more often wrong than objective analysis based on Statistical analysis of past performance projects future performance. The one issue with this is college qbs often have such a disparity of talent around them that makes it really hard to objectively analyze prospects based on statistics Eg. Dwayne Haskins, tua and joe burrow all performed much better than Justin Herbert in college. But Justin Herbert had a worse coaching staff and worse talent around him than all 3. However in terms of athleticism, Physical size, Arm strength, Ball placement, etc. You could’ve made an argument that Justin Herbert was the best prospect of the three just based on his personal skill. None of the stats would bear this out because the talent around him at Oregon was inferior to major college superpowers like Ohio State, Lsu and Alabama

Brendan Cunningham
Brendan Cunningham Ай мурун
Yes but the plan was never to start Herbert. I think hes referring to the teams approach of letting the rookie sit for a year. Even after Herbert had 3 great games, the coach said "hes a backup for a reason" (which is ridiculous). Bengals drafted Burrows with no mentor to help him develop, especially with a bad OL. Burrows was fantastic but the coaches failed him.

Idk I like Tua too. He's deadly accurate..I worry moreso about his style of play. He has the instinct to try to roll out the pocket when he gets pressure and he doesn't have the speed to compensate for it. Similar to Baker Mayfield. It also makes him susceptible to another injury. No denying his natural passing skills though. I would still take Herbert and Burrow above him, but I like all 3. This class is really reminiscent to 04 with Eli, Rivers, Ben

Herbert is awesome at QB this is our QB I love him as a chargers fan, my only hope is he doesn’t end up like Phillip, great QB just not enough talent around him and never able to get the job done, like driving for a TD when we need 6+1 but only getting 3 or a 3 and out, or a turnover, and seeing burrow go down was unexpected, but this man can win ROTY

Yes Trevor Lawrence is as good as Justin Herbert whoever gets him will be tickled pink. To be honest most teams would take 90% of Justin Herbert. Just watch if they get a coach like McVay or Shanahan. If he was on the 49ers during the Super Bowl Mahomes he’s not coming back from a two touchdown deficit while throwing two interceptions. Just wait till they start designing run the plays. He is the same size as cam Newton common runs a 45 and I had an arm like Josh Allen. But like Mahomes he’s more cautious just buy a little but that tiny margin means less interceptions. He literally has it all. All except an offenseive genius.
Chad Mesi
Chad Mesi Ай мурун
Herbert was my number one overall pick as well. Unlike JaMarcus Russell and Johnny Manziel and Ryan leaf, Justin Herbert had a 4.2 gpa and was on the Dean’s list throughout college while he was a quarterback and leader of the division one team… That is simply amazing. And that means that he was not 100% focused on football and most likely a perfectionist that wants to learn how to become better and the mistakes he kept making, We’re clearly not being addressed by the coaches. Unfortunately because a lot is even a smart analyst I’ve been burned it became the cool thing to hate on Justin Herbert. But if you looked Bieber he’s exactly what you want. Someone with the comp package physically But also has to drive and determination to work on his mistakes. If you are a great student it means you can be coached. When you didn’t put previous draft busts Into the equation the film said all of his issues were easily fixable and that’s what happened. The Dean’s list rookie finally got top level coaching and she was so thirsty to learn he fixed most of his mistakes before the season ever began. He is so incredible on film It’s hard to believe it’s not his third or fourth gear in the league. He is amazing it seems he should not be amazing at yet. He has one of the highest completion rating under pressure send he completes more long passes while the kids and any other quarterbacks in the league. Comparing him to Patrick Mahomes in their first year isn’t fair because my home I just sit behind Alex Smith, and still he looks better than Mahomes in his rookie year. If you gave him and he read, Travis Kelce, Tyree kill and the other 4 speed merchants with a decent that actually gets turnovers in Justin Herbert could be putting up better numbers than Mahomes.

What you forget Greeny is that TBomb ruined the Jets and Dolphins with horrific drafting. Why you guys continue to give him a platform to speak is comical. Is he the only former GM who will take the job?? He was a horrible personnel guy and was consistently wrong. Tua, Burrow and Herbert will all be very good and 10 games in does not mean it’s fair to draw conclusions. Remember it takes 3 years to develop and evaluate a QB. If Dennis Green were still with us, he’d say if you wanna crown em then crown em! And even if TBomb is right....ok so he finally got one!! Bought time! Couldn’t do it when the pressure was on and it mattered. He literally set 2 franchises backwards. Now if you wanna crown em...good luck. I’d rather listen to ppl with a much better track record. @Justin Wilson Look at our current gm record, look at Tua record as a qb. Dude just started and already has six tds. Went toe to toe with Kyler Murray. Survived one of the toughest defense in his first game starting since his injury. Dude is a rookie, yeah he did not play well in Denver. Dude does not have a running game and his offensive line was terrible that game. They need a good running back and the online needs to play better. They also need to get another fast slot receiver to pair with Parker. P Williams is not on the field right now. The only weakness Tua has is health. As a Dolphin and Bama fan that is the on,y thing that concern me. It is strange to see that people are worried about Tua health and lasting but you look at Burrow who is out for the season which sucks

Most people who talk about the NFL draft are idiots. I have been saying all along that Herbert was just as good as Tua or Burrow. You can't just judge talent by how far the player's team goes because Herbert didn't have a team loaded with the best players at almost every position like Tua and Burrow. Just look at all the weapons Tua had. If Burrow had the same amt of talent around him he would have also won the national championship or at least got very close. Like I say, most people are stupid and that is a fact.

Herbert success is system the Chargers are a great fit for what he does he playing in a spread offense like he did in college the Dolphins are not built for that they play more of a west coast pro offense moving the pocket play action etc thats what Tua did in college both players are where they needed to be

espn: any question about the dolphins also espn: lets bring in Mike Tannenbaum.. 🙄 only thing I want to hear from him is how to repeatedly fail, get fired, and then end up with an even better, cozier job.

He should write a book on that. It would be a bestseller.

Just a dolphins fan that wanted Herbert predraft. In general I dont like qbs from power house schools. Alabama, ohio state, etc have so much talent at skill positions its hard to judge qb talent. Tua had 3 first round picks playing wr last year at bama. Calling it now Justin fields will be trash in the nfl

Why is Mike Tannenbaum on espn? He got fired from the Jets and wasn’t a really good GM.

It’s pretty clear and obvious that Herbert is much better than Tua

You mean Justin Herbert who had 0tds 2ints 50% completion for 0pts against the Patriots is better than Tua? If you say so

As a chargers fan myself I can personally say that I am impressed. Headingginto the season i expected Herbert to be decent but not great. Now that he's been given the opportunity to show off that canon of his he's been nothing but spectacular. Hope he continues down this road his future looks bright!

Wrong. Neither of these QBs have played a full season or lost offensive weapons with more experience than them yet. Look at the Pats from the last four years of the Brady era or the Packers with Rodgers at starting QB.

@Joel F yeah we definitely shouldn't have drafted Tua just from his extremely bad college health record alone 🤕👀😬🙄😒🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

Miami gets Houston’s first pick next year. Depending on how Houston finishes, they just might draft a new QB next year. As a Dolphins fan I felt Tua was a good pick. Hindsight is always 20/20. Now I’m having regret. Not so much on how well Herbert is playing, but how poor Tua is playing. He doesn’t look confident and able to make quick decisions. I’m afraid he is going to be a bust. I also agreed with them getting Culpepper over Brees back in the day. It made sense at the time. These things you just never know.

Herbert got wayyy more weapons than Tua I'm just saying and Tua was the better QB coming out the draft than Herbert everyone was calling him a bust now everyone wants to hop on his nuts and say that it was a bad thing teams passed on him he was being compared to Cutler/Trubisky relax

Put Herbert on Alabama with actual NFL receivers and he’s the number 1 pick easy, Tua will be a backup in the next 4 years
